The Price of Proximity

Have you ever heard the story of the frog in the pot of water? The idea is that if you put a frog in boiling water, it will jump right out. But if you put it in lukewarm water and slowly turn up the heat, it won't notice the gradual change until it's too late. It’s a grisly metaphor, but it illustrates a profound spiritual danger: the danger of gradual compromise. We rarely dive headfirst into disaster. Instead, we drift. We make one small choice, then another, moving our tent just a little closer to a world that will eventually pull us into its own chaos. Today, Lot’s life is a sobering warning about the true price of compromise.
