Shoes On Your Feet

On June twenty-fourth of this year, two earthquakes hit Venezuela. Two of them. Thirty seconds apart.

And in one city on the coast, reports said eight out of every ten buildings came down. Eight out of ten.

But here's what really haunts me about it. From the street, those buildings looked fine. Apartments. Offices. High-rises. They looked fine.

But what they found out after the earhquake, is that the building codes which were written decades ago were never enforced. And nobody could see the problem. Until when? Until the ground moved.

So let me just say it this way: The earthquake didn't make those buildings weak. It showed what they were made of.
